Licensing Professionals have the following update on the highly likely arrival of Martyn’s Law – more formally referred to as the Terrorism (Protection of Premises Bill), we can now report that the bill is to have its first reading in Parliament yesterday (12/09/2024).
Assuming a relatively smooth passage, the likelihood is that this becomes law in the first quarter of next year, albeit with a further anticipated 18-24 months to secure compliance.
This proposed legislation requires qualifying premises or events to take appropriate steps to minimise the threat of terrorist attacks.
Licensing Professionals understand that the “standard tier” duties will now be proposed to apply to premises with a capacity of 200 or more, rather than 100, which was originally proposed.
Licensing Professionals also understand that the likely regulator will be the Security Industry Authority.
